Club visit Open Meet in strength

In Pershore Swimming club's most recent visit to a Level 3 Open Meet staged by Wyre Forest Swimming Club in Wolverhampton ten of their members won 31 medals between them with 11 medals being gold in colour.

For the boys eleven year old Drew Jones a pupil of Sir Thomas Richard's school in Gloucester proved unstoppable and from his seven events he achieved a magnificent seven gold medals setting him up nicely for the forthcoming County Champs over the four weekends in February and March. Drew won the 100m fly; 100m back; 100m free, 200m Individual Medley (IM); 50m fly; 50m free; and 50m backstroke events. In the same age group Owen Leeks won gold in his first event being the 100m IM following with a 2nd place and 3rd place in the 50m fly and 100m back. Staying with the 11 year old division Jack Betteridge took silver and two bronze in the 100m fly and 50m back and 50m free events. Meanwhile Josh Sharratt proved too strong to all but one of the competitors in the ten year boys division finishing 2ndin the 50m fly with 42.49 and swimming well as one of the youngest in his age group in the 100m free (1.24.06) , 50m back (46.33) and 50m free (35.22).

Nine year old Christopher Vizard also took gold in the boys first event with a time of 1:38.46 in the 100m IM whilst taking silver in the 50m fly and bronze in the 50m breast, 50m free and 50m backstroke events. Joseph Doyle took silver in the 200m IM whilst thirteen year old Harry Sykes took silver and two bronze in the 50m fly 100m free and 50m back with Angus Jones in the fourteen year age group took bronze in the 50m back.

For the girls young nine year old and new member Naomi Marsden excelled taking gold in the 50m backstroke in a magnificent new pb time of 42.63 taking her up to 2nd in both the County and Regional Rankings even rising to 34th in the UK out of 1,300 girls in her age group competing. Naomi's tenth birthday isn't until next May and so is expected to rise up the rankings even further. Ten year old Makenzie Christys won gold and two silvers in the 50m breast (pb 47.76), 50m fly (pb 42.20) and 100m breaststroke (pb 1:44.59) events.

Meanwhile twelve year old Lizzie Vizard too k bronze in the 100m breaststroke, whilst fourteen year old Ashley Gribble took home three bronze medals in the 50m free (pb 31.73); 100m free and 100m IM setting a pb in the 50m fly with 35.86 when coming home in 4th place.   PHOTO
