Great Start for Pershore's Youngsters.

Pershore Swimming Club continue to grow and a recent new initiative of local clubs working together is allowing their respective swimmers more time at last in the water.  At present any individual competitor from Pershore only gets 3 hours at Pershore Leisure Centre being totally inadequate according to the ASA who recommend 8-14 hours per week.

The friendship with neighbouring Worcester club has even allowed Pershore Swimmers to take part in Worcester's Club Champs for the under/9's in particular which they did in fine style recording pb's all the way.   Some of Pershore's 9, 10 and 12 year old swimmers have also been invited to swim for Worcester Club in their league matches if needed and regularly cover themselves and Pershore club in glory with great performances often recording 1st and 2nd  place finishes.  The U/12's from Pershore who have proved their ability and approach to training also benefit from being invited to extra training at Worcester and Malvern College is proving invaluable.

Tazmin Pugh in particular has swum herself into the record books and recently brought home 12 medals from 12 events at the County Championships made up of 3 gold, 8 silver and 1 bronze with pbs nearly every time she dived in including again in the finals.

Nine year old Tyler Mclean was another Pershore swimmer coming home with a gold qualifying for the County Championships for the first time.  He was joined by clubs mates Joseph Doyle (10) and Harry Sykes (12) making in the finals and only just being pipped to a medal themselves.

Tazmin Pugh has also gone onto record great performances at the International Millfield, Wolverhampton and Birmingham Open meets again gaining pb's on nearly every occasion.  This has left Tazmin finishing in the top three of the UK (end of year) rankings in nearly all of her events in both long (50m Olympic) and short course (25m) pools.

Drew Jones (10); Lizzie Vizard (11) and Ashley Gribble have all gone on to win coach Tom Naughton's monthly improvement awards all the above forming the backbone of the Squad the coach piucked for the recent first leg of the Nuneaton Junior league match.  This was the first league match Pershore have entered for a number of years and finishing 2nd with 235 points and only 15 pts behind the powerful squad from City of Hereford was a result to savour and indeed one they now feel they can even improve on.

There is a steady flow of raw beginners being found room to join despite session time restrictions by Wychavon Leisure and it is hoped they will be brought up to scratch to be able to take part in the club champs in July.  Meanwhile the future indeed looks bright for the club with league matches in May and June and hopefully finals in September, the County Team Relay Championships in June; the County Development gala in September and County Youth Sprints in October.
