Coach delighted with Performances.

 

When nineteen members of Pershore Swimming Club entered the ever popular level 3 'Stourbridge Crystal Meet' in Wolverhampton at the weekend it the last opportunity to gain qualifying scores for the County Champs in March.

 

It didn't take long before the club's first trophy of the day with Harry Sykes (12) winning his first silver of the meet in the  200m Individual Medley (IM) with a great new personal best (pb) and a County Qualifying Time (CQT) of 2:44.90. In the same event Drew Jones (11) also gained his first trophy with another 2nd place when swimming to a pb and CQT in 3:02.26.

 

Gaining his first CQT Callum Sanderson swam well all day starting with a pb of 37.39 in the 50m freestyle, followed by Jack Betteridge (10) also gaining his first CQT and pb of the year with 35.98, and Tyler Mclean also with a CQT and pb recording 34.42 and his first bronze trophy for the meet.

 

For the girls Alison Seward won her first trophy of the day with a 2nd and a pb and CQT with 38.23   Another CQT came Drew Jones' way with 3:22.94 in the 200m breaststroke taking the 1st placed crystal goblet in the 11 year division whilst Sykes matched this victory in the 12 year old division with another pb and CQT in 3:00.00.  With ten year old McLean also recording 1st place in the 50m breast later in the day with 42.52 Pershore's boys are proving their breaststrokers are second to none. McLean is now lying 1st in his age group end of year rankings in all three breaststroke events, and when swimming his next event, the 50m fly, immediately recorded yet another pb and CQT with 42.10 whilst Betteridge  still able to swim as a ten year old for a few more weeks took the 3rd placed trophy with a pb in 41.00.

 

Another silver trophy came to Drew Jones in the 50m breast with a pb and CQT in 44.70 whilst Sykes took 1st place with 37.65.  Seward's second trophy of the day came with a 3rd place in the 200m back improving a CQT she already had with 2:53.29. Mclean improved on his medal haul with a 2nd place in the 100m IM with a CQT and pb with 1:27.78. 

 

Sykes started the afternoon session off in good style with two 3rd places in the 50m fly with 34.62 and  50m free with 30.36, whilst in the 50m back a pb and CQT was recorded by McLean with 41.44.  In the 200m free Drew Jones took his 3rd silver with a pb of 2:41.65 whilst in the same event Sykes qualified for county champs with 2:30.53.

 

With other pbs coming from Katie Sharratt (age 12);  Ashley Gribble (13);  Lizzy Vizard (12); Ella Spencer (11);  Jasmine Taite (10);  Louise Hird (10);  Makenzie Christys (9);  Angus Jones (age 13);  Adam Palin (11);  Callum Sanderson (10);

 

Head Coach Tom Naughton was pleased the club started the year with some great results winning thirteen trophies four of them 1st placed ones. There were fourteen new County Qualifying times to go with the ones already swum and with room for improvement on some of the2nd place finishes the club looks set to continue with last year's successes and was the highest placed 'small' club (79pts) taking on the giants boasting over 300 members and benefiting from four times more pool time available to them.
