Four swimmers from Pershore Swimming Club received call ups to represent Worcester County at the Inter-County Invitation Gala held at Fenton in Stoke-on-Trent on Sunday.  The Worcester County squad (aged 11-14) faced strong competition from five other counties including Warwickshire, Cheshire, Leicestershire, Staffordshire and Shropshire which included several national and district swimmers amongst their squads.

Simon Sweatman (11) produced an impressive performance in the boys 11/u 50m free style to take second place in 29.76 and then was just beaten into fourth on the touch in the 11/u 50m fly in 33.19 (pb).

William Gearey (11) snatched an excellent second in the boys 11/u 50m backstroke in 35.48 (pb) and was edged out into third in the 11/u 50m breaststroke in 41.83 (pb).

Isabella Woodcock (11) claimed fourth in the girls 11/u 50m breaststroke in 41.12 and also swam a strong breaststroke leg in the girls 11/u 4 x 50m Medley.

Sweatman and Gearey were joined by PSC teammate Chris Vizard (11) in the boys 11/u 4 x 50m Medley Relay, with Vizard producing a new pb in the breast stroke leg (41.55) to help Worcester County to fourth.  Sweatman and Gearey also swam the first two legs in the 8 x 50m cannon relay, with Worcester just being beating into third by Warwickshire in a dramatic finish.

Tom Naughton, Pershore’s head coach, said:  "It’s a real achievement for a small club like Pershore to get four swimmers called up to compete for Worcester County.  The standard of competition was extremely high and all the swimmers performed exceptionally well!”
