Local Clubs Excel at Inter-Schools Gala.

 

In the recent Evesham and District Middle Schools (yr 6 through to yr 8) swimming gala the two local swimming clubs provided many of the top performers on the day with five new records being broken.

 

Swimming in the one length (1L) front crawl Hannah Dufty swimming for Blackminster  and training at Evesham Swimming Club (EveSC) had a tough battle but secured 2nd place with 18.44 whilst in the 1L backstroke for St Nicholas (Pinvin) schools Pershore Swimming Club's (PerSC) Louise Hird was also pipped to 2nd place recording 21.15.  In the yr 6 1L fly  Hannah Kenwright (PerSC) came in 3rd with 21.77.  In the yr 6  breastroke Hope Rochell swimming for Blackminster school and training at both clubs came out on top with 23.56.  With such good individual results it came as no surprise to find Blackminster going on to win the 4 x 1 girls freestyle relay race.

 

For the boys yr 6 races another new record came from Tom Perry (16.67) representing Bredon Hill (BH) and training at Evesham took the 1L front crawl title (16.67) with Harry Johnson (18.78) from St Nicholas (StN) and Pershore club coming in 2nd  (18.78). Evesham Club's rising star Harry Bamforth for Blackminster School took the title in the 1L back with a new record of 19.41.  In the butterfly and from the same school, Owen Leeks (18.82, EveSC) pipped two Pershore swimmers Drew Jones (19.80) St Barnabus (StB) taking 2nd place with 19.80 whilst Ben Clarke Abbey Park (AP) came in 5th. In the breaststoke Oliver Denning (EveS.C.) broke the existing record with 24.80 whilst one of Pershore's new members Will Bugg took 4th place.  With Blackminster coming in 2nd in the boys relay they secured the Yr 6 title.

 

Yr 7 girls found Pershore S.C. member Ella Spencer (16.64) coming out the victor in the 1L front crawl, whilst Megan Bradley (PerSC) came in 4th  and Emilie Culwick (EveSC) from Simon de Montfort school's took 5th place.  Evesham swimmer (EveSC) Melissa Humphries (Bredon Hill) and  Yasmin Boff (Simon de Montfort ..SDM) shared the 1L fly title, with Boff swimming up an age group but taking the yr 6 record with 19.92, whilst Pershore's Tessa Carr ( Abbey Park) was 3 seconds behind. In the breaststroke only eight hundredths separated Beth Carter in 1st (S de M) and Pershore Swimming Club's Lizzie Vizard (20.58,  StB) with Charlotte Bradley coming in 4th.

 

For the yr 7 boys Pershore Ewan Cordiner (St Barnabus) was 2nd in the 1L back with 21.89 whilst club mate Adam Palin ( Abbey Park) won his fly race with another team mate Jake Spencer 2nd  and Jack Richardson (EveSC) from Simon de Montfort 3rd.    Keeping up Pershore's good form Michael Evans (22,85,  St Barnabus) won comfortably in the breaststroke with 22.85 with Tom Maxsted (EveSC) 2nd.  With St Barnabus school going on to win both the girls and boys relay races and taking a 1st two 2nd and a 3rd place in the Individual races they were easily top points scorers for yr 7 with 72 their nearest rivals being Bredon Hill with 65pts.

 

Yr 8 girls found Pershore's Katie Sharrat (16.25) from Pershore High School (PHS) taking 2nd place in the front crawl event, whilst Mollie Hardwick (EveSC) took the backstroke title in fine style with 16.95 setting a new record into the bargain.  Evesham Club's. strong u/14 year olds proved themselves in the fly with Chloe Mabbott (S de M) winning an exciting race against team mates Inez Brodie and Alice Hall finished with a time 17.47 with Pershore's Lily Weston coming in 4th.  Pershore member Rhiannon Cordinor took the breaststroke title with 23.03 with 1.5 secs to spare with Hannah Grinnell (EveSC) coming in 5th.  In a fingertip finish Pershore High sporting three swimmers out of Pershore club were awarded 1st place in the relay with 1.12.44 against St Egwins on 1.12.59.

 

Evesham's Chris Palmer (17.97) took 1st place in the yr 8 boys front crawl with swim club mate Ben Harris (19.26) taking the backstroke title and Tom McDonald (18.02, BH) and  Jordan Lymn (18.64) Blackminster School taking the first two places. Angus Jones (PHS) taking 3rd in the fly.  Taking the yr 8 title was St Egwins 42pts with Bredon Hill in 2nd place 38pts.     Taking the yr 8 team title was St Egwins on 42pts;  Bredon Hill 2nd on 38pts and Pershore High School 3rd on 37pts.
