Pershore Swimmers in the pool again.

Thirteen of Pershore Swimming Club were in action at Wolverhampton on Sunday in the Stourbridge 'B' Gala designed to give the less experienced swimmers a chance to compete outside the club. It turned out to be a day to remember with 27 personal best's recorded.

Swims of the day came from 11 year old Harry Sykes who started the events in fine style with an improvement of 8 seconds on his personal best (pb) in the Individual Medley (IM) with 1.30.33. Taking the 3rd place trophy in the 50m Freestyle (34.77), 4th place trophy in the 50m Breaststroke (47.26) and 43.72 recorded in the 50m Backstroke proved to the best day's swimming in Harry's life and one to remember.

In the same age group Angus Jones beat his pb's by miles with 1.43.31 in the IM and 41.03 in the 50m Free. Tidiahn Woodward was also in action in three events again smashing his pb's with 57.27 in the 50m Breast, 44.34 in the Free and 1.43.88 in the 100 IM.

They were closely followedby Bethany Carter who had excellent swims in the individual 50m Breaststroke(53.72) taking the 8th place trophy and 50m Freestyle 42.61.

For the ten year old girls Rhiannon Cordiner and Katie Sharrett improved on their pb's with swims for Rhiannon in the 50m Breast (51.97) 50m Free (45.43) and 50m Back (48.94). Katie swam the 100m Im for the first time in competition and recorded a fine 1.47.04 also recording 53.57 in the 50m Breaststroke 41.55 in the Free and 51.11 in the 50m Back.

Ella Spencer, Laura Snape and Megan Williams represented the 11 year old girls. Ella was just outside the medals with 46.74 in the 50m Backstroke plus 43.04 in the 50m Free and 58.68 in the Breaststroke. Laura recorded a fine 1.49.24 in the 100 IM; 44.45 in the 50m Free; 52.82 in the Breaststroke and 62.48 in the Backstroke. Whilst Megan swam pb's in the 50m Free of 48.91 and 56.97 in the Breaststroke.

Pershore had four 9 year old boys competing in the pool with Drew Jones setting a new pb of 52.56 in the 50m Backstroke, whilst in the 50m Breaststroke Adam Palin swam 58,73. Joseph Doyle continued his present run of good form with 49.88 in the 50m Backstroke and , whilst Jack Betteridge recorded 59.41 in the 50m Breaststroke. One of the most exciting finishes of the day came between Joseph and Jack in the 50m Freestyle. With a fingertip difference of one hundredth of a second Jack just came out on top but just outside the trophies by one place with 42.15 against Joseph's 42.16.

"It was more like our own club Championships" stated Head Coach Tom Naughton when they were drawn in the same heat in the 100 IM with Drew heading the four boys home with 1.45.89 closely followed by Joseph with 1.49.78, the youngest of the four Jack less than a seond behind on 1.50.61 and Adam again a new pb on 1.58.34.

Nine Year old Jack Betteridge typified the attitude of the swimmers when he said to his coach prior to his 50 Fly swim that he desperately wanted to win a trophy. In his final event Jackswam the 50m Fly coming in 4th with 51.91. Coming out exhausted but wore a big the smile on his face when hecollected his trophy, making all Jacks efforts worth it.


The event was the last event of the day and was definitely the icing on the cake for Pershore Penguin swimmerswith Head Coach stating "The hard work and determination showed how well the Pershore swimmers have progressed over the last six months, it is good to see their efforts being rewarded"
