Pershore Swimmers on form in league invite.

With their recent rise to fame Pershore Swimming club are in demand and have been invited to take part in next year's PGL league.  This is a second level type of gala as it penalises fast swimmers by giving them speeding tickets and therefore zero points but does allow swimmers up to the age of fourteen to take part.

With Pershore's quickest swimmers only taking part in relays or in their weakest strokes coach Tom Naughton's plan to shuffle his team around to limit speeding tickets payed off with pb's galore coming from some of his less experienced swimmers and great team performances in the relays.  The club recorded 1st place finishes in half of the relay events and 2nd in another four.

Angus Evans (14) set the evening off in the very first heat in fine style with a win in the 50m Fly with Tom Bailey repeating this success in the 9 year boys 25m Free.  Joseph Doyle and Tyler McLean took top places in the 12/u 25m breast and 11/u 25m Fly.  One of the most startling swims of the evening came from Grace Gregory in the 25m Back stroke with a style and confidence seldom found in a 9 yr old recording 24.88 secs.  Another great time from Tessa Carr in the 12/u 25m Free of 15.84 secs started a series of 1st place victories coming Pershore's way.

These came in the form of both boys and girls 11/u 4 x 1 Medley Relay 1st places made up from Alfie Simpson, Benjamin Clarke, Drew Jones and Doyle for the boys.  For the girls Louise Hird and Hannah Kenwright completed the Back and Breast legs followed by Tazmin Pugh setting 15.32 secs for the Fly and Alison Seward 16.15 secs for final leg of Freestyle.

The 9 yr olds were not to be outdone in their mixed 4 x 1 Medley Relay with Daisy Tolley, William Clarke Simon Sweatman and Olivia Tresigne taking 1st place.  With individual wins coming from both Angus and Michael Evans others from Isobella Woodcock in the 10/u breaststroke and Tom Bailey again this time in the 9 year 25m fly was a prelude to another four relay victories for Megan Wight, Kenwright, Pugh and Seward in the girls 11/u 4 x 1 Free and Sweatman Ben Doyle, James Taylor and McLean in the 10/u Freestyle relay.

With good individual swims coming from James Bower (10), Ashley Gribble (13), Danielle and Sammy Whitehill, Adam Palin (12),  Charlotte Bradley (12) and Harry Sykes (13) it led the way for the team to take two more relays in the girls 9years free and boys 12/u Free and amassed Pershore's unofficial points to a healthy 174 and looking like they may have come 2nd overall with Cheltenham on 176, but well ahead of Leominster and Bromsgrove and so bodes well for next year when they may well enter the league.   PHOTO
