Pershore host four-way friendly.
Pershore recently hosted a four way friendly match between Droitwich, Worcester and Evesham swimming clubs. The idea of the competition was to give young inexperienced swimmers a chance to shine and for some in competition for the very first time. The evening proved most successful with the roof of Pershore Leisure Centre being raised by the excitement generated. Keeping within the spirit of the competition Pershore did not pick their top swimmers but even so there were some exceptional performances with 39 personal bests being swum and on many occasions the youngsters having to swim up in an older age group.
The evening started well with the home team's Tessa Carr taking the five winner's points for the girls 10 year old 50m freestyle. This was followed by a personal best (pb) from Joseph Doyle with a 39.13 and 2nd place for the boys freestyle, later in the evening recording yet another pb and 1st place in the 25m back of 21.47. With two more pb's and 1st place points from Bethany Carter (22.04) and Jack Betteridge (25.58) in the next two Breatstroke races and 1st place in the girls 11/u medley relay Pershore had got off to a stunning start lying in first place.
Unfortunately the Pershore's relay takeovers from the totally inexperienced teams were poor and Evesham club duly took adavantage of the situation and took over the lead which they never relinguished.
With further disqualifications in the next three relays it was left up to individuals to score the points, and even though Frances Turner set a new pb in the girls 12/u 50m backstroke with 39.63 and Harry Sykes a pb of 41.88 the other teams also wheeled in their top swimmers so only recorded 3rd and 4th places. For the girls 10yr breaststroke Laura Snape restored Pershore's 2nd place standing for her club with a 1st place and pb of 49.16.
The ten and eleven year old Jones' brothers swam well throughout the evening with pb's in the breast of 52.70 and back of 50.00 from Drew and Angus in fine form in the relays and recording 2nd place with 38.63 in the boys 11/u free and a pb in the 50m fly with 44.50.
This new found strength in the boys was emphasised by the two boys 9yr old relay teams coming 1st and 2nd in their matches and a further 1st place from Betteridge in the 25m fly of 21.61.
Great swims from Tamara Moule in the 50m free, Heather Turner in the 50m Breast, Katie Sharratt in the 50m fly with a pb of 52.13; Indi Creed-Miles coming 2nd in the girls 9yr back and a pb in the 25m fly of 24.16 proved there is so much talent blossoming the future looks most promising.
This is emphasised more so looking at the new swimmers for which this was their very first gala Callum Sanderson, Tyler McClean (pb in 9yr 25m free of 20.22) and Harry Johnson swimming out of their skins. Not to be outdone Beth Snape, Erin Williams, Charlotte and Megan Bradley and Amy Porter (who had earlier raced back from a hockey tournament in Oxford) performed equally well meaning lane training may be taking on a new competitive look between the boys and girls.
Honours went to Evesham with 188 in 1st place, with Worcester on 164, Pershore 156 and Droitwich 146.
