Pershore Swimming Club Rookies in action

When Pershore Swimming Club competed in an invitation Gala organised by Stourbridge club at Wolverhampton four of their under 9's were also invited to give them a taste of competition outside the club.   They repaid the invite handsomely with personal bests in everyone of the 25m breaststroke and freestyle exhibition events.

In the breaststroke Maisy Robinson (aged 8) swam first and recorded a fine 27.32 with club mate Charlotte Downey (7) on 34.67  whilst for the boys Christopher Vizard (7) set a pb with 36.89 and William Gearey yet another with 29.42.  Later in the evening they were in the pool again this time in the 25m freestyle, once again Robinson and Downey set pb's with 23.45 and 23.22 respectively.   Fastest out of all of them was Gearey with 19.54 and Vizard 24.74 again pb's all round.  They were all rewarded with medals for their personal record swims.

Other pb's in the evening came from Angus Evans (13 and under) in the 50m fly and back whilst his brother Michael also swam competitively in the relays.  For the same age group Ashley Gribble also set new pb's in the 50m fly with 35.85 and a time of 32.52 50m free giving her every possibility her times will qualify for the 2011 County Championships next March.

For the 12/u Angus Jones and Rhiannon Cordiner swam pb's in the 50m back and fly with Jack Betteridge and Lizzie Vizard setting new pb's in the 11/u 25m breast and back.  Twins Jake and Ella Spencer swam the 11/u freestyle event with Jake swimming a pb with 17.16 and sister Ella on 17.00.  For the 10/u 25 free Callum Sanderson (20.91) and Tessa Carr (17.98) and also in the 25m back set new records for themselves.

Tazmin Pugh (10) swam the 10/u fly in 15.86 (pb) and 25m free in 15.03 (pb) and recording a 1st place finish in the older 11 yr group followed by the 25m breaststroke in 20.88 (pb).   Alex Griffin swam to a pb in the 50m breast in 43.32 and also set a 25m pb whilst competing in the 13/u freestyle relay with 16.42 whilst Joseph Doyle pb'd in the 25m back with 18.73.  Harry Sykes also proved he is still improving with 39.94 in the 12/u 50m breast and also 14.75 setting his team off in the 4 x 1 13/u freestyle with Angus Evans finishing even better with 14.45.

Even though all the other much larger teams present were at full strength Pershore continue to use these competitive experiences to build on and are determined to have a part to play in the 2012 Olympic legacy, and with more swim time which Wychavon Leisure are looking into at present the club are sure to do so.  The club would like to congratulate inspirational and local swimmer Cameron Brodie now at Kelly College but who started at Evesham in making the Scottish Team for the Commonwealth Games in Delhi. The local community and dignitaries are warmly invited to attend the finals of a Midland District League Competition to take place 11th September at Wolverhampton.
