Tazmin shines in Sheffield.

Pershore Swimming Club's gold medal winning girl Tazmin Pugh travelled to Sheffield's Pond's Forge International Pool to compete in the hardest Level 1 Open Meet organised by the City of Derby.   Being a 50m Long Course (L/C) pool it would be Pugh's last chance to compete as a ten year old and consolidate her UK ranking positions in four of the events.

Her first race was the 100m backstroke and swimming to 1.20.81 she improved her personal best L/C time by 3 seconds took the silver trophy and ended her age group rankings as 2nd in the United Kingdom. Pugh followed this with taking 1st place in the 200m freestyle with an even better 4.5 sec improvement recording 2:32.15 and finishing 1st in the UK rankings.

The afternoon session was much the same story with a 5 sec improvement on her L/C time in the 100m butterfly with 1:20.43 being her seventh Midlands Qualifying time to be competed for in June at Coventry.  Taking the 2nd place trophy, Pugh's superb new time also meant she finished up 2nd in the UK in this event as well.    Pugh's final event of the day came in the 200m backstroke and with a time of 2:47.72 being a massive 8 sec improvement, once again finishing 1st on the day and also 1st  in the whole of the United Kingdom in the 10 year old end of her year rankings.   By the time she turned 11 the following day she was ranked 1st in the Region in both Long and Short Course pools in a staggering 24 events and for the county was 1st in 29 out of 36 events.

It was a truly successful weekend and with Pugh now entering the 11 year old ranks her eyes are fixed on edging ever nearer to the National Age Group Championships Qualifying times being 5 seconds away in the 100m events; 9 seconds short in the 200m free and 6 seconds in the 200m back. Her County Championships start in February where she will competing in the 800m and 1500m freestyle events for the first time, completing the championships with her club mates over another two weekends in March in fourteen other events.
