Tazmin and Severin show the way.

Pershore Swimming Club's blossoming talent in the form of Tazmin Pugh was rubbing shoulders with the Best of British when competing in the 'Last Chance' gala in Swindon. The older swimmers use this gala to try and secure that elusive National Champs Qualifying time for July so was awash with talent. Tazmin who is still only 9 years of age, had lesser goals in mind nevertheless it all paid off handsomely with her achieving four personal best's (pb's) out of five swims.

Her first event was the 50m Freestyle where Tazmin secured the first place medal in the 9 year old division with a fine 34.77 seconds and climbed to first place in both the West Midlands Regional and County Rankings, and with 6 ahead of her in the National Rankings turning 10 this month she can soon see herself as the youngest swimmer in the UK top ten rankings.

In the 200m Breaststroke Tazmin again secured first place with a new pb of 3min 36.17secs leaving her ranked 2nd in the Region and 1st in the County. Obviously on song Tazmin entered the 200m Fly at the last minute again coming home in first place with yet another improvement of over six seconds on her previous best with 3min 28.91secs and consolidating her second place in the Regional Rankings and again first in the County.

For the very first time Tazmin had decided to compete in one of the last Olympic stars, Double Olympic Gold Medallist Rebecca Adlington's events being the challenging 400m Freestyle (16 lengths) and once again swam to victory with 6min 05.64sec and again looking at second in the Region and first in the County 9 year old girl Rankings. In addition this was the 14th fastest in the all time (last 17 years) 9 year old girls times in the UK and a county record to boot.

It was a day to celebrate for Tazmin who came through the arduous distance challenges set before her with flying colours and four first place medals. Tazmin continues to set some of the fastest times from over three million recorded in the last 12 years for 9 year old girls.

Meanwhile Severin Naraine still celebrating being chosen to represent the County in a three-way Inter County Match on the 5th July was competing in the first weekend of the Midland District Championships at Coventry.
