Pershore Swimming Club in Club Champs Battle

An unbelievably successful Club Champs at Pershore Swimming Club has seen members from age 6 to 30+ battle it out recording an amazing 260 personal bests (pb's) between them.

Setting the champs rolling were the youngsters with Maisy Robertson coming out on top with pbs and 8pts each coming in the 25m free, breast and the 100m Individual Medley (IM), closely followed by Charlotte Downey on 19 pts and Susie Fowler 3rd on 12 pts.  In the top girl section of the under 9 girl champs Downey came out on top recording 85 pts against Robertson and Amy Weston tying on 78 pts.

For the boys seven year olds Simon Sweatman won all his 25m races finishing with 32 pts and 4 pbs. In 2nd place was Joshua Sharratt swimming 3 pbs and 24 pts, whilst William Gearey aged just seven, recorded 16pts.  In the top under 9 boy FINA pts competition Sweatman recorded 374 against Sharratt's 163 and Gearey's 136.

In the nine year old age group Tyler Mclean was top boy (FINA pts) with 1st place positions coming from the best sprint (50m) results, best form (200m back, breast and fly), best distance (200m free), and best IM.  There was no one to come near his accumulated score of 750 pts in fact he wasn't far short of Joseph Doyle's 775 pts victor in the ten year old group.  In doing this Mclean has already qualified in the four of the events for next year's County Championships in the 50m 100m and 200m breast, 200m IM, and 50m free five months ahead of schedule including haven't reached the qualifying times for the Midland District Championships and so was more than pleased with his stunning 7 pbs.    Staying with the nine year old boys James Bower was 2nd with 206 pts (6 pbs) and Sammy Whitehill 3rd 117pts.

For the ten year olds Drew Jones was pushing County qualifier Doyle all the way finishing 2nd with 627pts but also qualifying for next year's county champs in the 200m free and 200m breast, followed by Jack Betteridge on 553 pts who also looks set to qualify for the Counties  during the next five months.   Special mention should be made of Callum Sanderson swimming to 10 pbs.

Ensuring he did all the necessary elements of the four disciplines Jake Spencer recorded a memorable 1st place with 481 pts against Adam Palin's 456 pts and Michael Evans' 424pts.  The over 12 old boys were able to record one extra discipline comprising the 100m events with Harry Sykes finishing on 1098 pts and adding to his County qualifying events in the 200m breast and 200m IM, with Angus Jones 2nd on 806 and Toby Alliband coming in 3rd with a heartening 3 pbs.

James Gribble swam exceptionally well recording five pbs and finishing top of the 13 and over group with 1165pts and in fact was only marginally short of qualifying for the county champs himself.    Alex Griffin's determination pushed Gribble and finished 2nd with 1087 well ahead of 3rd placed Angus Evand on 657. For the nine year old girls Jasmine Taite came out top girl with 9 pbs and  532 pts against Beth Snapes 348 pts but recording 6 pbs and Hannah Simister's 121pts.

The ten year old girls saw Midland District Medal winner and County team member Tazmin Pugh come in just for the last session to record 1216 pts from her four swims and take 1st place ahead of the another Midland qualifier Alison Seward with 973 pts (4 pbs) with Tessa Carr in 3rd with 889 pts (3pbs).   Swimming the extra discipline for the 11 year old girls Lizzie Vizard set an inasaleable target of 1232 followed by Ella Spencer on 1106 and Laura Snape on 1031 pts.

In the 12 year old girls Rhiannon Cordiner set the highest total of the championships with 1401 pts helped by 11 pbs followed by Katie Sharratt 2nd with 1231 pts (5 pbs)  and Amy Porter 739 pts.    For the over 13 group Katie Smith showed her attendance at training is paying off setting 1062 pts against Ashley Gribble's 1045 pts just an agonising one point ahead of one time GB cyclist and successful triathlete Ceris Styler on 1044 pts.
