Pershore swimmers called up.

For the last two years neighbouring club Worcester swimming club have helped a core of swimmers from Pershore allowing them extra swimming time with only 3 hours being normally available at Pershore Leisure Centre for any of their swimmers.  The latest ASA athlete development programme suggests that for a competitive 10/11 year old girl they should be training at least 8 hours per week.   To give them chance of competition Worcester club chose five to represent their club in a recent PGL gala and with pb's from all of Pershore's swimmers it was a great success.

This type of gala is a nightmare for the team selector as there are stipulated times which if swum quicker speeding tickets are issued and the finishing positions do not count.  With this mixed blessing several from Pershore came away with pb's together with their speeding tickets.  Eleven year old Harry Sykes was swimming for the twelve and under age group in his least favoured event being the 25m fly recording a pb of 17.36 but received a speeding ticket.  Sykes went on to record 19.58 in the Medley relay breaststroke leg and another pb in the 4 x 1 freestyle relay with 14.94.  Nine year old Tyler Mclean received a speeding ticket swimming the 25m fly for his pb of 19.36 and another pb in the 25m breast with 23.41.

Swimming in the 11 and unders Laura Snape recorded pb's for the 25m breaststroke with 21.72 and maximum points with 1st place and then swimming in the 4 x 1 relay a pb of 18.17 for 25m free.  Katie Sharrat swimming in the twelve and under age group enjoyed all her swims both individual and for the relay teams with her best pbs coming in the 25m back of 20.51 and 17.06 in the 25m free helping the Worcester club to 2nd and 3rd place finishes in her races.   Finally Ashley Gribble also swimming for the twelve and under recorded a new pb in the 25m fly of 17.52.

With so many speeding tickets coming their way Worcester club ended up with 165 pts against Redditch clubs 194 pts with Leominster Kingfishers on 105.
