Six of Pershore Swimming Club's entered the County Youth Sprints in Wolverhampton and although three of them were younger than the 13 year old plus it is intended for they achieved 19 county qualifying times (CQT) and 29 personal bests (pbs).

For the second weekend running thirteen year old Angus Jones showed a pleasing continuous performance going even quicker achieving pbs in all his six events with 32.67 in 50m free, 35.2 in 50m back, 38.11 in 50m fly and continued this great form into the 100m events with his best being the 100m back finishing in 6th place with 1:14.82 and only a few agonizing tenths of seconds short of several county qualifying times. His younger brother Drew Jones not only set five pbs but six of his eight swims were CQT's with 32.89 in 50m free; 1:21.89 in 100m Individual Medley (IM); 1:10.21 in 100m free; 1:21.71 in 100m back being the best of the bunch.

The two girls on the day were not to be outdone with fourteen year old Ashley Gribble achieving 32.40 in the 50m free and a fine pb in the 100m free with 1:09.61 just missing out of winning bronze with 4th in the 100m backstroke with 1:24.47 and 5th in the 50m fly with 37.56 from her six events. Twelve year old Lizzie Vizard again for the second weekend running was supreme with three pb's and three CQT's in the 50m breast with 41.71; 1:22.11 for the 100m IM; and coming home in a great 9th position from 21 older girls in 1:30.09 in the 100m breaststroke.

It was another great day for the club which is still on the rise and going from strength to strength with their head coach Tom Naughton hoping for well over fifteen members to make next year's County Champs many for the first time and eleven already having qualified.   PHOTO
