Pershore Swimmers in Inter-Schools Gala.

 

 

In the recent Evesham and District Inter-Schools swimming Gala eighteen swimmers from Pershore Swimming Club took part representing their respective schools from Years 6, 7 and 8 with nine 1st and four individual 2nd places recorded, and making up another three 1st place relay finishes.

 

First up were the competitors for the freestyle events where Ashley Gribble for Pershore High yr 8, and Christian Norden attending St Nicholas yr 6 (17.70) both finished in 1st place for their age groups and schools.  Gribble's time of 16.00 secs for the 25m free is a new Evesham & District schools record and continues her recent good form following on from being awarded Pershore Swimming Clubs monthly achievement trophy for March.

 

In the 25m backstroke Ella Spencer (yr 6, 19.64 secs)) and Angus Jones (yr 6, 18.76 secs) both representing St Barnabus Drakes Broughton finished in 1st place whilst Megan Williams St Nicholas, Pinvin came in 3rd.

 

In the year 6 Butterfly events Tessa Carr from Abbey Park recorded 1st place in a gutsy fingertip finish with 20.52,  Heather Turner came in with 25.23 having to swim her least favoured event to gain the valuable 1pt for St Barnabus.  Continuing with the fly events Adam Palin finished 2nd with 20.88 with a worthy school's record coming from Charlie Waites from Evesham swimming club with 18.57 secs.   Jake Spencer St Barnabus was 5th with 23.08.   Abbey Park gained 4pts from Katie Sharrat (yr 7) finishing 3rd in her 25m fly with 20.24, whilst for Pershore High yr 8 Alex Griffin finished 1st with 18.47, and Alexandra Dobell was 2nd in her 25m fly event with 18.86.

 

A close finish from two Pershore Swimming Club girls in the 25m yr 6 breaststroke saw Lizzie Vizard (St Barnabus) come out victorious with 22.61 from club mate Laura Snape (2nd) with 23.75.  For the boys yr 6 Michael Evans St Barnabus again finished 1st with 24.81 and helped his school gather in another 7pts.     Staying with the breaststroke yet another 1st place and 6pts came from Rhiannon Cordiner (St Barnabus  yr 7) with 22.96.  Pershore High School recorded a 2nd place with Francis Turner with 22.03 as too did Angus Evans with 22.56.

 

A 1st place, two 2nd places and a 6th in the team relays helped St Barnabus yrs 6 and 7 pile on the points to finish 2nd and 3rd overal whilst Pershore High yr 8 won both their boys and girls relay races comfortably taking the yr 8 title from Blackminster, Bredon Hill, Simon de Montfort and St Egwins.
