Pershore Swimmers in medal haul at Gloucester

Recently two Pershore swimmers Tazmin Pugh and Harry Sykes competed over the weekend of the Gloucester City Swimming Club's Open Meet and recorded nine personal bests and nine medals between them.

On the first day Pugh recorded two 1st place wins in the 200m free with a new personal best (pb) of 2mins37.29 and the 50m free with 32.71.   Meanwhile Sykes started his haul of seven pb's with 400m free of  5.45.01 (6th) and going on to win the 50m breast with a superb new time of 41.01.  The pair then had to make a dash to Tamworth Snowdome to help their club (the two of them competing in thirteen events) to victory in their 2nd leg of the Nuneaton Junior League match.   Sykes also played an important part in his new role of Junior Club Captain.

An early start the following day found Pugh tired but still recording a 15 secs pb in the 400m free with a 1st place and a time of 5.25.71.  With 1st place medals in her next three races 200m back (2.50.91); 200m Individual Medley (3.00.90) and 50m back (37.43) Pugh came home with six golds from six events.

Sykes started his second day with 200m free with 2.36.09 whilst another pb came in the 50mfree with a great time of 31.39.  A 2nd place finish in the 200m breast (3.10.35) was another massive pb as too was the time of 2.54.83 in the 200m IM .  Syke's final placing medal a 3rd came in the 100m breast with 1.28.27 only a few seconds short of a Midland Age Group Qualifying time.

It was tiring but extremely rewarding weekend with Pugh learning at the end she was 2nd top girl in 9/10 age group even though competing in two less events than the eventual winner from City of Cardiff's Swimming Club member Megan Squire.
