Pershore Swimmers put up a fight in the PGL Final

Pershore Swimming Club put up a tremendous fight in the PGL League Final to finish a very credible fourth and just miss out on a podium on Saturday night in Gloucester.

Competing against the other seven, some being larger, clubs being Cheltenham; Worcester; Stourbridge; Evesham; Redditch; Oldbury and Ross SC. the young swimmers from Pershore managed 10 first places and a staggering 22 personal bests.

The first win on the night was recorded by Jack Betteridge in the 12 & under boys 50m backstroke in a time of 40.70 seconds. This was soon followed back-to-back wins with Simon Sweatman winning a tight race in the 11 & under boys 25m breast stroke in 21.67 (pb) and a strong swim from Hannah Simister in the 11 & under girls breast stroke to take victory in 21.28 (pb).

Next to record victories for Pershore were Tessa Carr in the 12 & under girls 50m breast stroke in 46.68 and Isobelle Cumming in the 11 & under girls 25m fly in 19.43 (pb)

Tom Bailey put in two tremendous performances on the night and managed two first places for the team, winning the 10 & under 25m freestyle in 17.67 and powering his way to the 25m backstroke in 21.85 (pb).

Luke Betteridge made sure that he followed his brother with a win and came first in the 9 & under boy 25m breast stroke in 24.13 (pb). Further victories went to J Taite in the 12 & under 50m freestyle in 37.24 (pb) and Drew Jones in the 13/14 year boys 50m freestyle in a time of 32.19 seconds (pb).

William Gearey, swimming up an age group, secured another first place for Pershore in the 10 years and under boys 25m breast stroke in 23.07 (pb).

Several other swimmers smashed pbs including Owen Leeks, Charlotte Downey, Elizabeth Vizard, Michael Evans, Joseph Doyle, Callum Sanderson, Naomi Marsden, Ella Spencer, Maisy Robertson and Josh Sharratt.

The event was eventually won by Stourbridge, with Worcester and Cheltenham just beating Pershore into fourth place.
