Pershore Swimmers take County Gala by storm.

 

For the second week running 25 members of Pershore Swimming Club were in action this time at a County Development Swimming Gala and Youth Development Sprint Gals in Wolverhampton and again setting 63 personal bests (pbs) and 28 County Champs qualifying times for next March. The Youth sprints will be reported next week.

Winning two gold and one silver medal was nine year old Simon Sweatman. He started by taking silver in the 50m breaststroke in a new pb of 52.72. Sweatman followed this by taking gold in the 50 fly (43.18) and also the 50m back (43.29). They are all County Qualifying times (CQT) for the County Championship next February and March.

Fellow yr 5 pupil William Clarke at Abbey Park Middle set magnificent pbs in the 50m free (44.63) a 6 second improvement, and a 1.5 second improvement in the 50m back 54.95. Elder brother Benjamin (11) had five races with pbs in all but one with 53.02 in the 50 breast, 37.59 in the 50m free, 49.70 50 fly, 46.13 50m back and 1:38.50 in the 100m IM. Another yr 5 pupil at Abbey Park gaining a silver medal was Josh Sharratt in the 50m fly in 43.35 a fingertip finish behind Simon, also setting a county qualifying time of 38.03 in the 50m free with a great new pb in the 50m backstroke 46.43. Eleven year old Jack Betteridge had five races taking bronze medal in the 50m fly for his 11 yr age group in 40.05. Another four superb pbs came in the 50m breast with 47.41, 50m free in 34.78, 50m back in 42.58 and 100m IM in 1min 29.07.

A CQT came the way of another nine year old Christopher Vizard with 38.83 in the 50 free followed by another pb in the 50m breast (54.13) and 50m fly 48.93. Three more pbs were recorded by Jake Spencer with 34.13 50m free, 44.91 50m back and 40.55 50m fly. Owen Leeks set a new pb in the 100m IM with 1.27.70 only narrowly missing on a CQT. with Callum Sanderson setting one in the 50m with 36.70.

The ten girls in the development sprints were not to be outdone with great new county qualifying times being set by Maisy Robertson in the 100m IM in 1:40.97 with pbs in the 50m free 42.65 and 50m fly 49.04. Isobella Woodcock was the other of Pershore's young swimmers setting a County time in 51.31 in the 50m breast and finishing in silver medal position. Isobel Cumming bravely entered all five races she was eligible for and set pbs in all of them a magnificent achievement her best one being 48.9 in the 50m free. Both girls have only just turned 9 so this was their first open meet making their results even more outstanding. Three pbs were set by Makenzie Christys 40sec in the 50m free, 45.98 in the 50m back and 1:36.37 in the 100m IM.

A perfect day was had by Emily Burton setting pbs in all her four races with 39.43 50m free, 50.67 50m breast 43.86 50m back and 1:35.65 in the 100m IM. Daisy Tolley continued her good form with pbs in the 50m back with 47.70, 50m fly 59.13 and 1:52.97 in the 100m IM. Ella Spencer and Louise Hird also set great times in what was a most promising start to the season for the Pershore swimmers making their head coach Tom Naughton delighted with the first day of the weekend.    PHOTO
