Pershore Swimming Club's Youngsters get in on the act.

Pershore Swimming Club's younger members (7 & 8 yr olds) were invited to compete in their very first gala by neighbouring Worcester Swimming Club for the final session of own Club Championships recently.

All the races were over 25m for this age group with Simon Sweatman being one of the youngest competitors at 7 years of age getting them off to a great start recording the fastest time in the freestyle of 20.35, with Joshua Sharratt (8) 3rd on 25.80 and William Gearey 26.47. In the girls freestyle Beth Snape was top Pershore girl with 23.92, followed by Hannah Simister on 24.64, Maisy Robertson 25.87 and Rosie Forest 32.29.

In the backstroke Sweatman again proved unbeatable with a time of 24.56 with Sharratt 28.19 and Gearey 35.02. Beth Snape again led the Pershore girls home with 28.39, Simister on 30.30, Forrest 31.80 and Robertson 32.89. Finishing positions were reversed in the breaststroke with Simister coming out on top with 30.30 with Snape 2nd on 32.09 and Forrest on 47.23. Although being the only girl to swim the butterfly from Pershore Beth Snape still shone with 35.82.

In the butterfly Sweatman was the only boy to compete from both clubs with a fine 28.51 against his name.

Also competing by invitation were Pershore's new National Schools ISA Champions Harry Sykes and Tazmin Pugh together with rising star Joseph Doyle all swimming in the distance events being the 400m free and 400m Individual Medley. For the boys Sykes was top 11 year old boy with 6.05.32 in the 400m free and Doyle top of the 10 year division with 6.26.01. For the girls Tazmin Pugh still only 9 recorded a fine time of 5.45.46 to lead all but one of the 9, 10, 11 and 12 year old girls home. In the 400m Individual Medley Pugh was again top 9 year old with 6.47.42.
