Pershore team performs at county swim

Youngsters from Pershore Swimming Club took part in the Worcester County Development Meeting at Wolverhampton on Saturday, delivering four first places, 26 personal bests (pbs) and five new County Qualifying Times (CQT). It was also the first time competing for some of the newer club swimmers.

 

Star performance went to Sam Doyle (9) who managed to grab four podium places, with superb wins in the 9 year old Boys 50m fly and 50m back in 47.48 and 45.01 respectively, second place in the 100m IM in a new pb of 1.39.23 and a respectable third place in the 50m freestyle in 38.80.

 

Naomi Marsden (10) showed that she is back on form in the her strongest event, the backstroke, taking first place in the 10 year old Girls 50m backstroke in 40.42 which was both a pb and gained her a CQT in the process. Naomi also produced a strong swim in the 10 year old Girls 100IM in 1.32.75 to secure a third place and another pb and CQT.

 

Lizzie Vizard (13) continued her recent excellent form, achieving two CQTs and another pb. Lizzie won the girls 13 years 50m breast stroke in 40.46 (gaining her a CQT) and she backed this up with an excellent second in the 100m IM in 1.18.58 (a new pb and a second CQT).

 

Owen Leeks (12) took third place in the boys 12 year old 50m freestyle in 32.71, and backed this up with two new pbs in the 50m breast stroke (46.43) and the 100m IM (1.23.17).

 

Luke and Jack Betteridge produced a string of strong swims between them, with the younger brother smashing four pbs. Luke (9) took third in the Boys 9 year old breast stroke in 55.25, taking four seconds off his previous best. He then went on to take a staggering seven seconds off his previous time in the 50m freestyle, bringing his new pb down to 42.92.

Not to be out done, Jack (12) also took third place in the Boys 13 year old 50m breast stroke in a new pb of 43.66, taking three seconds off his previous best and he also recorded a pb of 33.25 in the 50m freestyle

 

Olivia Howard and Jamie Saunders (9) were both swimming in their first competitive meeting and proved to be undaunted by the situation as they delivered fours pbs between them. Olivia took four seconds off her best time in the 50m freestyle in 46.49 and recorded 50.38 in the 50m backstroke. Jamie, who only joined Pershore Swimming Club in 2012, showed a great deal of promise, knocking seven seconds off his 50m freestyle in a time of 44.37 and four seconds off his 50m backstroke in 54.28.

 

Other swimmers who produced pbs including Louise Hird (12) in the 50m freestyle (38.24), Isabella Woodcock (10) in the 50m fly (48.16) and 100m IM (1.35.62) and Chris Vizard (10) with three pbs in the 50m free (35.90), 50m breast (53.74) and 50m fly (46.82).

 

Commenting on the performances, Tom Naughton, Pershore's head coach, said: "We had a very good day where younger swimmers continue to develop the skills that they practice so hard in training. It's really pleasing to see swimmers recording personal bests and an increasing number of our squad securing County Qualifying Times."
