PERSHORE CRUISE TO EASY VICTORY IN PGL LEAGUE

Pershore Swimming Club put in a dominant performance in the latest round of the PGL League, taking an easy victory against Oldbury, Warley and Worcester B held at Wombourne.  Pershore ended up clear winners with 31 first places from 60 events, giving them a total of 175 points, with Worcester second on 160 points, Oldbury third on 132 points and Warley in fourth with 106 points.

The team got off to a slow start, picking up three speeding tickets in the first four events before eventually settling down and putting points on the board.

There were plenty of good individual performances and team relay wins on the night to report, with many swimmers being forced to swim up an age group to avoid speeding tickets.

Josh Sharratt took victory in the boys 11 year 25m breaststroke (22.00); Olivia Howard in the girls 9 year 25m freestyle (18.30); Josh Lane in the boys 13/14 50m backstroke (37.45); James Thomas in boys 25m freestyle (16.96); Charlotte Downey in the girls 10 year 25m butterfly (20.51); Alexandra Barry in the girls 25m breast stroke (27.10); Kieran Bennett in the boys 10 year 25m freestyle (18.11); Caitlin Yates in the girls 9 year 25m backstroke (25.75); Michael Evans in the boys 13/14 year 50m breast stroke (41.34); Satara Fierriera in the girls 10 year 25m back stroke (21.87); Emily Burton in the girls 13/14 50m freestyle (34.21); Calum Sanderson in the boy 12 years 50m fly (40.62); Exxxx Cope in the girls 11 year 25m breast stroke (21.56); Luke Betteridge in the boys 10 year 25m breast stroke (25.46); and Leo Rendall-Baker in the boys 9 year 25m fly (22.88).

Pershore were dominant in the team events across the various age groups, again recording several victories in both medley and freestyle relay formats.

The boys and girls 10 year 4 x 25m medley relay teams both won in 1.26.66 and 1.25.90 respectively as did the 12 year old boy and girl 4 x 25 medley teams in 1.15.85 and 1.14.37.

The boys 13/14 year 4 x 25m medley team also took first place in 1.09.73 as did the boys 11 year old 4 x 25m medley (1.21.89) and the girls 11 year old 4 x 25m medley (1.21.22).

In the last ten events which focus on the free style relays, Pershore proved too strong for the opposition and easily sealed victory with several victories across the age groups.

Victories were recorded by the boys 13/14 year old 4 x 25m freestyle (59.31); the boys 11 year old 4 x 25m freestyle (1.07.24); the boys 10 year old 4 x 25m freestyle (1.12.75); the girls 10 year old 4 x 25m freestyle (1.13.74); the mixed 9 year 4 x 25m freestyle (1.20.06); the boys 12 year old 4 x 25m freestyle (1.07.07); and the boys and girls 10 x 25m freestyle cannon relays in 2.49.70 and 2.50.37.

Tom Naughton, PershoreÆs head coach, commented:  "Another strong performance from our young team, with plenty of individual victories and also many personal bests too.  Although we had a bit of a stuttering start with the speeding tickets in the first few races, we soon pulled the lead back and really dominated the remainder of the gala.ö
