Simon swims in to town.

When nine year old Simon Sweatman travelled to Boldmere's Open Meet in Birmingham last weekend he was carried the flag for high flying Pershore Swimming Club and did it with calm but more importantly successful distinction.

In his first event the 400m freestyle he was the youngest to complete the sixteen lengths in a time of 5:56.05 which was 11 secs quicker than his entry time and 5th overall in the combined 9/10 year age group though top 9 year old boy and set the stage for the remainder of a long day.

In the 50m butterfly a new personal best and his first sub 40 seconds in a time of 39.79 found him collecting a well deserved bronze medal on the podium. For the 50m breaststroke Simon set a time of 52.19 another 1 sec improvement on his entry time and 3rd nine year old boy.

In his penultimate event the 200m freestyle Simon once again improved on his entry time setting 2:54.24 and 2nd nine year boy. A 5th place from the 25 strong combined 9 and 10 year old in a superb time of 34.27 found him being 1st nine year old and proving he is on the way to becoming a new star in Pershore Swimming Club in his first year of competition and making his school of Abbey Park Middle justifiable proud of him.    PHOTO
