Pershore take second place at Solihull Gala

Another strong performance from Pershore Swimming Club saw the team take second place on Saturday night in Solihull against clubs from around the Midlands region. Competing in a Junior Trophy Gala, the Pershore team grabbed a fantastic second spot beating Rugby, Camp Hill, Perry Beaches, Solihull B with their 'A' team winning on the night.

There were a string of notable performances on the night, recording thirteen 1stplaces, with eleven of those being individual wins with others in the team smashing personal bests (pb's) and several swimmers again making their competitive debuts.

Megan Annis (10) produced two excellent performances in her individual events, taking 1st placings and producing pb's in both the 10/u Girls 50m breaststroke in 46.91 and the 10/u Girls 25m butterfly in 18.63 seconds.

Rebecca Phillips (10) notched up another win for Pershore, producing a strong swim in the Girls 10/u 50m backstroke in 44.56 (pb) and giving the team maximum points from her individual event.

There were also wins for Naomi Marsden (10) and Simon Sweatman (10) in the girls and boys 11/u 50 backstroke, with Naomi taking first in 39.18 seconds and Simon in 36.88 seconds. Simon made it a hat-trick of victories winning impressively in the 11/u and 12/u 50m freestyle. William Gearey (10) won the boys 10/u 25m fly in a new pb of 17.77 seconds and also easily won the boys 10/u 50m freestyle in 33.10 seconds. Josh Sharratt (11) won the boys 11/u 50m fly.

Pershore also produced ten 2nd places second and nine 3rd places. Jasmine Franks (8) made it a double, taking excellent second places in the Girls 9 years 25m breaststroke, with a new pb of 25.50 seconds and the Girls 9 years 25m backstroke in 22.47 (pb). Cameron Leach (8) also took second place in the same event for the boys in 23.85 (pb), and also grabbed second place in the Boys 9 years 29m freestyle in 19.68.

Holly Winkley (10) took 2nd in the Girls 10/u 50m freestyle in a new pb time of 37.90 with. Luke Betteridge 3rd in the boys 10/u 50m breaststroke (55.84) and 10/u 50m back (48.72).

Caitlin Yates (9) making her debut, produced a pb of 23.40 seconds in the Girls 9 years 25m freestyle. Ned Meredith (9), also debuting for the team, clocked a time of 29.79 for the boys 9 years 25m butterfly. Leo Rendall-Baker (10) also produced another pb, with a time of 32.88 in the boys 9 year old 25m breaststroke. And Hannah Simister (12) shaved time off her previous best in the Girls 12/u 50m breaststroke with 43.58 seconds.

There were also 1st places in the relays for the Boys 11/u 4 x 25m Medley team (Sweatman, Chris Vizard, Sharratt and Tom Bailey) and the Boys 11/u 4 x 25m freestyle relay with Gearey replacing Sharratt. Pershore also secured third in the Boys 12/u 4 x 2m Medley, with Ollie Cross producing a fine final anchor leg in 19.38 seconds. Finishing positions were Solihull A 248 pts; Pershore 213; Rugby 193; Camp Hill 176; Perry Beeches (B'ham) 99 and Solihull B 98.
