Jasmine celebrating her gold medal at Stourbridge

Several youngsters from Pershore Swimming Club made their competitive debuts at the recent Stourbridge Open Meet (Level 3 Development Gala) at Wolverhampton, producing 42 personal bests and bagging a couple of medals.

Jasmine Hoskins (9) secured her first ever gold medal for Pershore with a superb swim in the girls 9 year old 50m backstroke winning in 46.36 and a massive pb. Hoskins also produced personal bests in the 50m free (40.79), the 50m breast (1.01.99) and the 100m IM (1.52.69).

Owen Kirby (10) was very close to grabbing a podium finish, with strong performances across several events in the boys 10 year old age group.  Kirby produced five personals bests, with a fourth place in the 50m back (45.78), fifth in the 100m IM (1.42.99) and good times in the 50m free (40.63), the 50m breast (55.35) and the 50m fly (51.42).

Caitlin Yates (10) snatched an excellent fourth in the girls 50m breast in 51.44 and also produced massive pbs in  the 50m back (47.23), the 50m fly (50.49) and the 100IM (1.45.04).

Jamie West, competing in the boys 13 year old age group events, was another swimmer on strong form producing five pbs in the 50m free (38.59), the 50m back (43.79), the 50m breast (45.40), the 50m fly (53.41) and the 100m IM (1.40.11).

Naomi Marsden took gold in the girls 12 year old 50m breast in 43.63 (pb).

  • Alex Bryne (10) produced pbs in the 50m free (44.44) and the 50m fly (58.33)

  • Hazel Clay (10) achieved three new pbs in the 50m back (56.05), the 50m breast (1.00.11) and the 100m IM (2.00.25)

  • Suzanne Capewell (10) also produced three pbs in the 50m free (50.23), the 50m back (57.15) and the 50m breast (1.04.76)

  • Alice Gregory (9) delivered a four second pb in the 50m free (47.04) and reduced her 50m back to 52.11

  • Tamara Marsden (9) managed two pbs in the 50m fly (55.53) and the 100m IM (1.47.33)

  • Sophie Thomas (10) produced three pbs in the 50m breast (53.23), the 50m fly (52.38) and the 100m IM (1.47.34)

  • Max Aris (10) produced pbs in the 50m back (47.17) and the 50m fly (51.42)

  • William Mullen (9) produced pbs in the 50m free (47.16), the 50m back (54.22) and the 50m breast (1.09.68)

  • Robert Thorner (9) also produced pbs in the 50m breast (1.11.48) and the boys 100m IM (2.17.29)

Pershore’s head coach, Tom Naughton, said:  "Great to see new faces entering competitive open meets and I was delighted that we achieved so many personal bests.   These development galas are ideal for getting swimmers use to competition and building their confidence and experience.”
