Local Swimmers in County Call Up

Two swimmers from our club competed for the County of Worcester at the weekend in the annual Three Way Inter-County Swimming tie being ten years since their last win. This year Gloucestershire were the hosts and no surprise they had assembled a very strong squad, with last year's winners Staffordshire (only 2 pts ahead of Worcestershire) also travelling in force to defend the sixty year old trophy.

It was Tyler's first time in representing the County whilst it was Tazmin's second call up in two years.

Both swimmers were supreme and swam great new personal bests (pb) with Mclean 40.12 in the 50m breast and together with Bamforth shared superb victories in the 4x 50 Medley Relay. Pugh was there to try and take the County to victory in the 50m back but was asked to step forward at the last minute to swim the 11yr 100m Individual Medley taking the win with a new pb of 1.16.75 placing her 1st in the UK for the end of 2011 rankings for 11 yr old girls. Wins in her individual 11yr 50m backstroke in 34.24. as well as victories in her three other team relay events in the 4 x 50m Medley, Freestyle and mixed age Cannon races.

Worcestershire never relinquished the lead from the very first race eventually and comfortably finishing on the victor's podium with 347pts against Gloucester 2nd on 303pts and Staffordshire 3rd on 274pts. It had been ten years since Worcester County had won the magnificent silver trophy and so tasted even sweeter winning by such a margin.    PHOTO
