Tazmin becomes National Swimming Champion

Tazmin Pugh aged just 8 and deemed too young by the ASA to swim competitvely in Open Meets has just fought her way through a schools competition.  She took the opportunity by winning the Midland ISA Schools Championships at Walsall and by doing so went on to represent the Midlands in the annual ISA National Championships.

Being wrongly entered in the 50m breaststroke (her weakest event) she proved everyone wrong and went on to take National title with a time of 49.45 at Coventry's 50m Olympic size pool.  Her other event was the 50m freestyle which she also won later adding another relay gold to her two Individual gold medals already won by helping her Midlands 4 x 50m freestyle relay team to victory.

Whilst at Coventry the Midlands ISA rewarded Tazmin with their own trophy being 'The Most Outstanding Swimmer Year 4 Girls' Trophy.  This was all a complete surprise to her school of Bowbrook House in Peopleton but who are immensely proud of Tazmin's success.

Her father stated he was so worried about Tazmin being daunted by the sheer size of the Olympic pool that they went along and took part in a lane swimming session there the week before, it was here on the same occasion she met a young swimmer who was to become a friend ever since being Ella Grainger from 'City of Leicester S.C.' and who has also been swimming for the Midlands ISA ever since and where the two renew their acquantance at each of the Cross Country, Athletic and Sporting events every year.

This was the first proper non club competitive event Tazmin had ever competed in and obviously marked the way her career in swimming may take in future years and certainly became the first of many visits to an Olympic size pool.   PHOTO
