Tazmin Pugh top girl in Olympic Pool

On Saturday Tazmin Pugh from Pershore Swimming Club competed in the Coventry Sprints. This involved all four strokes, the Freestroke, Backstroke, Breaststroke and Butterfly. The sprints were over 50m and being at one of the few 50m long Olympic Pools in the UK always attracts high class competition in the Region.

From amongst all those taking part the eight fastest times in each age category go forward to one final competition on the day being the 200m Individual Medley.

Tazmin started with her weakest stroke being the 50m breaststroke coming third with a Long Course time of 50.23. Her best events came next and swimming superbly she duly gained first place in the 50m free with 35.71, 50m back with 41.64, and 50m fly with a new personal best time of 38.58. With three first places it was no surprise she went forward as the fastest qualifier for the 200m IM.

Tazmin judged the race superbly and swam the first 150m made up of 50m fly, 50m back, 50m breast well within her normal race pace feeling comfortable swimming alongside one of the other top girls in the Region, Jessica Payne, from a top club Nuneaton. In an exciting last length of freestyle and attracting some of the loudest cheers of the day from her club mates at Worcester Swimming Club Tazmin gradually increased the pace and eventually won by 1.24 seconds in a time of 3:11.03.

This final fourth gold of the day left Tazmin as the very top girl with events points wins from amongst all the age groups present numbering 139 competitors. In addition Tazmin has since discovered she has beaten all the previous meeting's nine year old times in all the free, back, fly and IM events and is rapidly becoming the girl to beat.
