Round 2 of the Worcester Winter League saw Pershore travelling to Bromsgrove again to face stiff competition from Worcester A, Redditch, Halesowen and Haden Hill, with the team needing a good result to ensure their place in the final.

Pershore started well with a second place for the mixed 11/u medley relay team, just losing out to a strong Worcester team on the touch.

Hope Rochelle and Michael Evans faced tough opposition in the 15/u 100m free, with both recording good times but just outside a podium finish.

Naomi Marsden, swimming up an age group, produced an excellent third place in the 13/u 100m back in a time of 1.18.95, and Simon Sweatman, also swimming up, grabbed the team’s first place of the evening in the 100m back in a time of 1.12.84.

Katie Sharratt and Angus Jones produced good swims in the Open 100m fly, with both narrowly missing out on a top three finish against much older and Midland District competitors.

Megan Annis was edged into second by one of her County rivals in the 11/u 50m free, putting down an excellent time of 33.26 in the process. William Gearey grabbed first place in the 11/u boys 50m free, with a time of 30.91.

After the first ten events, Pershore found themselves in third place on 38 points, behind Worcester A on 52 and Halesowen on 41.

An impressive performance from the 13/u mixed medley relay team soon followed, pushing Worcester rivals back into second place by tenth of a second margin with a winning time of 1.44.74.  More maximum points from Isabella Woodcock and William Gearey in the 11/u 50m breast came shortly afterwards, with Isabella touching in 40.64 and William in 41.40.

With ten events remaining, Jasmine Taite stepped up to produce a fine swim in the 13/u 100m freestyle to claim third place in 1.12.39 and William Gearey, again swimming up an age, won the 13/u 100m free in an impressive 1.07.70.

Beth Carter, just 14, then swam in the Open 100m breast stroke, facing national and district swimmers, managing to bring home a fantastic third for Pershore in 1.25.20.

With just the relays to finish off the gala, Pershore managed to come second in the mixed 11/u 6 x 25m freestyle relay, losing to Worcester on the touch by five hundredths of second in 1.34.30.  The performance on the night though was left to the mixed 13/u 6 x 25m freestyle team who romped home in first place in 1.31.68 to beat strong Halesowen and Worcester teams.
