Youngsters
from Pershore Swimming Club travelled to Wolverhampton this weekend to compete
in the Wyre Forest County Qualifier meeting, bagging over 35 medals and
securing several new County Qualifying Times.
The opening
event of the day saw Charlotte Downey grab the teamÆs first medal, taking silver
in the Girls 10 year old 200IM in 3.14.75. More medals were soon to come in the next event for the boys in the 100m
IM, with gold medals for Cameron Leach in the boys 9 year old age group in
1.38.25 (pb) and Chris Vizard in the 11 year old in 1.24.55. Harry Sykes added silver in the boys 15 year
old age group in 1.07.86 and Patrick Heeks also took bronze in the ten year age
category in 1.32.34 (pb).
In the
butterfly, Katie Sharratt swam well to take bronze in the girls 50m distance in
35.58 while William Gearey took gold in the boys 10 year old 100m event in
1.25.48 (pb). Sharratt also took silver
in the 100m fly in 1.20.57. There were
also good performances in the fly from Jasmine Franks (9), Downey (10), Hannah
Simister (12), Megan Annis (10) and Isobel Cumming (11) who all narrowly missed
out on podium finishes.
The 50m
backstroke saw Annis claim her first medal during the event, coming second in
the girls 10 year old category in 39.93 (pb) and her first time under the 40
second mark. Franks, Amelia Gearey,
Caitlin Yates and Tamara Marsden all produced good displays in the 9 year old
category and Ellen Cope swam very well in the 11 year old age category.
Josh Lane
increased PershoreÆs medal tally with a silver medal in the boys 13 year old
100m back in 1.18.87 (pb) and Vizard grabbed his second medal of the weekend
also taking silver in 1.21.25 (pb). Angus
Jones won a bronze medal in the 16 year old age group with a time of 1.11.06.
There were
five medals won in the 50m and 100m breaststroke events. Annis added gold to her individual haul with
victory in the girls 10 year old 100m breast in 1.40.75, and there were also
excellent pbs from Macey French (1.57.50), Downey (1.44.90) and Naomi Marsden
(1.37.88) û all just narrowly missing out on medals.
Sykes
dominated his race in the boys 15 year old 50m breast stroke, taking gold in
34.09 and leading from the start. Vizard
and Gearey both added a second gold medal, drawn against each other in the same
heat in what proved to be a nail-biting finish. Vizard took gold in the boys 11 year old 50m breast category in 43.62
(pb) as did Gearey who won the 10 year old event in 43.52 (pb). Leach secured bronze in the 9 year old
category in 53.29.
In the
girls 50m freestyle, Franks and Marsden grabbed podium places and faster County
Qualifying Times. Franks produced a fine
swim to take bronze in the 9 year old event in 38.55 and Marsden also took a
good third place with a time of 34.34 in the 11 year old category.
In the
100m freestyle, Vizard, Sykes and Jones were amongst the medals with Vizard
grabbing his third gold medal in the boys 11 year old event in 1.10.62 (pb),
Sykes (15) took silver in 59.45 seconds and Jones (16) secured bronze in 1.03.68. There were also strong swims from Ronan
Williams (10), Jamie Saunders (10) and Josh Sharratt (12) û again just missing
out on medals.
Franks,
Annis and Marsden secured podium finishes in the girls 100m IM, with silver
medals for Franks (9) in 1.41.42 and Annis (10) in 1.28.91 and Marsden (11)
taking bronze in 1.23.85 (pb). In the
boys 200m IM, Leach stormed to gold with an excellent 3.45.20 in the boys 9
year old age, whilst Vizard (11) was just beaten into silver.
Vizard was
soon back on the top podium, taking gold in the 50m fly in 37.95 (pb). There were silvers for Leach in 46.69 (pb)
and Jones in 33.41 (pb) in the fly. The same trio also medalled in the 50m
back, with three silvers for Leach, Vizard and Jones. Saunders won bronze in the 10 year old 50m
fly in 45.40 and Leo Rendall-Baker (9) also produced a fantastic swim with a
time of 47.19.
Franks (9)
and Annis (10) won gold in the 50m breast in 51.75 and 45.32 respectively, with
Downey (10) grabbing silver in 49.51 and Simister (12) taking bronze in
43.81.
Gearey and
Sykes added two more gold to the impressive Pershore medal tally, both winning
their 100m breast events with clear margins. Gearey (10) produced a time of 1.36.21 to take first place and Sykes
again showed his class in the breast stroke with a dominant performance coming home in 1.15.36.
In the
last two events, Pershore managed to bag another four medals, with Annis (10) coming
second in the 100m free style in 1.17.23 and in the boys 50m free there were
silvers for Sykes (15) in 26.75 and Jones (16) in 29.88 as well as bronze for
Leach (9) in 38.59.
There were
also a string of good performances and pbs produced by Leo Rendall-Baker (9),
Caitlin Yates (9), Amelia Gearey (9), Tamara Marsden (9). Sophie Thomas (9),
Olivia Howard (10), Ronan Williams (10), Macey French (10), Patrick Heeks (10),
Ellen Cope (11), Isobel Cumming (11), Josh Sharratt (12), Josh Lane (13),
Tamara Moule (14) and Emily Burton (14).
