Pershore Swimmers on form.

Seven swimmers from Pershore Swimming Club were in action at the weekend. Six were competing for their other training club Worcester S.C. in two of their league matches.  The first of these was in the Mercian League at Cheslyn Hay, Walsall, where four of Pershore's boys were in action.

Twelve year old Harry Sykes set a new pb of 1.31.80 for the 100m breaststroke coming in just a second behind 1st place.  Sykes swam to another 2nd place in the 50m fly with 38.94 and 2nd places for Sykes in his relay races

Two 1st places were recorded by nine year old Tyler Mclean with 38.27 in the 10 and under (10/u) 50m freestyle whilst ten year old Joseph Doyle recorded another valuable 1st place finish in the 10/u 50m backstroke with 40.70. Ten year old Jack Betteridge came in 4th place with 20.61 in the 10/u 25m fly.

There were strong swims in the relay races from the Pershore boys with 1st placed finishes in the 4 x 1 free and medley races to help Worcester to a fantastic 1st place overall with 259 pts with 2nd place Lichfield 217pts just edging Redditch into 3rd place with 215pts.

Meanwhile two of Pershore club's girls represented Worcester S.C. in their PGL league  match.  Rhiannon Cordiner swam a 20.92 in the 12/u 25m breaststroke with Lizzie Vizard 20.38 in the  25m 11/u back later competing in two relay events to 2nd and 3rd placed finishes.

With her return to UK after being stranded in Spain for a week Pershore's Tazmin Pugh,  was in action straight away to see if she could improve on her 6.44.45 for her 400m Individual Medley time and trying to make the Midlands Qualifying time of 6.39.00.  A gutsy performance in the Hereford Target Meet saw her record a 28 secs pb and a 1st placed finish of 6.16.32.

This makes it the tenth event Pugh has now qualified to swim, plus an optimistic aim of possibly four finals, in the Midlands Age Group Championships competed for over two weekends at Coventry's 50m size Olympic Pool in June.  In the other two events she competed in at Hereford she won a 1st place medal in the 200m fly and a 2nd place in the 100m free.   Her 400m IM time leaves Pugh ranked 4th in this event in the UK at the end of the year short course rankings (i.e. those still aged 10 at 31st Dec).  In other events Pugh is also ranked 1st in three, 2nd in four, and 3rd in two more events in the UK.
