Pershore celebrate another great year in the pool.

In another stunning year in the pool Pershore Swimming Club are celebrating so many team and individual victories it is hard to know where to start.  The club's 9 & 10 year old boys won the County's 4 x 50m freestyle relay title for the first time, whilst eighteen of their swimmers representing their respective schools from Years 6, 7 and 8 won nine golds and four individual silvers and three 1st place relay finishes in the Evesham and District Inter-Schools Gala earlier in the year.

In each Inter-Club gala Pershore competed in they averaged over 35 personal bests (pbs) each time one of such was the  Stourbridge B Gala where they also took home nineteen trophies with head coach Tom Naughton being utterly impressed with the "excellent results".

The crowning glory for the club during the year, however, was in making the Midland District Junior League Finals for the first time not only coming 2nd on the day but achieving their goal of gaining promotion to division two in their first year of competing and did so in the most impressive way by taking four division trophies and five individual divisional records.

At many of the Region's Open Meets a number of the club sustained the club's rising name during presentations with well deserved pride, some of the more memorable occasions being at Boldmere in July when four of the club's swimmers came away with 22 placed finishes and 18 pbs and again in October when five members won 17 trophies and another 30 pbs.

In the County Championships in March there were individual titles for the first of the club's ten year olds with Tazmin Pugh taking three golds medal, eight silver and one bronze going on to be the first club member to qualify for nine events at the Midlands Age Group Championships. Meanwhile Tyler Mclean also stormed to National recognition with an impressive gold in the 50m breast reaching 2nd place in the UK rankings.  In all, thirteen medals were won by club members and with even more likely to qualify this year the medal count should be higher.

Pugh was joined at the Midland's  Championships by Alison Seward, with Pugh going on to win two silvers, two bronze medals and two 4th placings and most impressively taking 4th top girl and establishing herself in the top five in the UK in many of her events, presently lying 1st in the end of year rankings in four of them, whilst in the Region she is 1st in twenty four events in both short and long course pools, during the year winning at least 77 medals and twelve Open Meet trophies.

In July Pugh went on to represent the County winning her event in the three-Way Inter-County Match. In November she took the Midlands ISA titles in the backstroke and butterfly events being awarded the ISA's Midlands 'Most Outstanding Swimmer' for the third year running on her way to the National ISA Championships.  It was here that Pugh, together with club mate Harry Sykes. went onto take three National titles and two National ISA Records and being crowned National Champion in her event for the third year running. She also has the distinction of being awarded with the ISA's National 'Outstanding Junior Girl Swimmer' trophy. Meanwhile Sykes won the National breaststroke title for the second year running and also winning the ISA Midlands 'Outstanding Swimmer Trophy' and now lies 12th  in the UK 50m breaststroke rankings for twelve year olds.

The Club Championships were the most successful to date with over 250 pbs achieved whilst the winter club trials went even better with over 350 pbs recorded.  The youngsters coming through have also proved they are deserving recognition for all their  hard work when accepting an invite from their neighbouring Worcester Swimming Club's under 9 Championships recently went on to win many of their events.

Finally the club has just been awarded their Swim 21 accreditation largely due to one of its hard working committee members Sarah Snape showing that as a club it is recognised nationally as providing a safe, effective, child friendly and offering quality services for the benefit of swimmers and non-swimming members alike.
