Youngsters from Pershore Swimming Club entered
the annual æPied PiperÆ Aquathlon held at CheltenhamÆs Sandford Park 50m outdoor
lido, coming away with a staggering twelve podium places across several age
groups.
William Gearey (10) was first to strike
gold for Pershore, winning the boys 9-10 year old age group (100m swim/1300m
run). Gearey exited the water first from
the 100m swim and then proceeded to build on his lead with a dominant
performance in the run leg (1300m) crossing the line in 7 minutes 49 seconds to
take first place. Ronan Williams (9)
wasnÆt too far behind Gearey, putting in a strong run performance to come in
fourth place in 8.01 and Cameron Leach (9) was a second behind in sixth place
in 8.02.
In the girls 9-10 year old age group,
Megan Annis (10) was just beaten into second place, coming home in a time of 8
minutes 21 seconds. Satara Ferreira (10)
came a credible fifth place in 8 minutes 38 seconds and Jasmine Franks (9) was
just behind in sixth place in 8 minutes 43 seconds.
Pershore also took gold in the girls
11-12 year old age group (200m swim/1900m run) with a fantastic victory for Mia
du Toit. With a strong performance in
the swim, Mia put in a brilliant run to take gold in a time of 12 minutes 25
seconds. Daisy Tolley (11) also produced
a strong performance to take third place in 13.04. In the boys 11-12 year old age group, Josh
Sharratt (11) beat fellow Pershore rivals Chris Vizard and Simon Sweatman, with
a strong run leg to take bronze medal in 12 minutes 5 seconds.
It was double gold for Pershore in the
13/14 year old age group (400m swim/2500m run) with gold both the girls and
boys events. Callum Sanderson (13)
exited the water with his rivals close on his heels, before he put in a
dominant run to extend his lead and take gold in 16 minutes 57 seconds. Owen Leeks (13) also swam and ran well to
take third spot in 19 minutes 10 seconds. In the girls event, Cassarena Ferreira (12) was the youngest competitor
in her age group. Ferreira exited the
water in first place and didnÆt let her lead slip with one of the best runs of
the day to take first place in 18 minutes and 30 seconds.
In the older age group events, Katie
Sharratt and Angus Jones both medalled in the 15/16 year old age group (400m
swim/3100m run). Sharratt (15) took gold
in a time of 21 minutes and 14 seconds, beating fellow Pershore team mate Alex
Dobell (16) into second place in 21.48 seconds. In the boys event, Jones came second producing strong run and swim legs
to take silver in 20 minutes 28 seconds.
In the youngest age group (54m
swim/400m run), Gabriella Barry (8) came second in 2 minutes 33 seconds.
Other Pershore swimmers taking part who
put in good performances included Hamish Cross, Jamie Saunders, Euan Campbell,
Alex Barry, Anja du Toit, Lauren Annis, Hannah Simister, Amy Weston, Isobel
Cumming and Kate Sanderson.
