Dignitaries Reward Club with a visit and a Trophy

In a visit from the Chairman of Wychavon Cllr Richard Morris, together with the Mayor and Mayoress of Pershore Charles and Elizabeth Tucker, the swimmers from Pershore Swimming Club were rewarded with official recognition of their recent growth and success and a celebration of their 40thAnniversary.

The visit came about because the Cllr Morris wanted to see for himself what the club were up to following two of their members being awarded the Wychavon Junior Sports Personality awards for the second year running in Harry Sykes' case and for the third year running in Tazmin Pugh's.

Pershore Town Council also wished to mark Pershore S C milestone by donating a new trophy, the 'Pershore Town Cup', to the club which will be awarded to the member making the most outstanding contribution to the club during the previous year at their annual presentations.

The Mayor, Mayoress and Wychavon's Chairman enjoyed their visit, witnessing close hand how hard the swimmers work during a normal training session. They had discussions with the club's Chairman, Mr Steve Vizard and Head Coach, Mr Tom Naughton on obstacles to the club's future growth during what is being hailed by the media and the powers that be as a time of 'Olympic Legacy'.

Pershore's swimming club regularly attracts over 70 members, aged 6 to senior swimmers, to each of its training sessions. Growth, however, is being seriously hampered by only two half hour sessions being made available to the club at viable times since their club more than doubled in size from a few years ago.

Meanwhile one of Pershore's senior swimmers mother of four classroom assistant at Holy Redeemer School in Pershore, Helen Annis made time to represent the County of Worcvester and Hereford at an Inter-County Masters competition in Stafford. With good individual and team relay swims by Helen she helped the County finish 2nd in the gala with more results from other venues to come in for a virtual Master's County Team Championships for the whole of the country.
