Pershore Swimmers compete in Prestigeous Gala.

Four swimmers from Pershore Swimming Club competed at the weekend in the nationally renowned Boldmere Water Carnival and came away with twenty one place position pennants and eighteen personal bests (pbs) between them.

Nine year old Tyler Mclean from Charlton swam superbly in all of his seven events with place positions in all and pbs in six to set.  It would be hard to pick out his best swim but the 200m events must be the pick of them swimming these in competition for the first time.  Mclean's 200m free time of 3:03.85 meant a new pb; as too his 200m breast where he gained a magnificent 1st place with 3:29.0.  Then came his 200m back of 3:20.64 one of the greatest improvements on the day of nearly 14% from the 300 swimmers present.  Together with his 6th; 4th; two 3rd, and two 2nd  places proved to the 500 spectators he will be one to watch for the future in 2011 already smashing this year's Midland  and County Qualifying times.

Tazmin Pugh (10) competed in ten events and again won the top five place pennants in all of them.  Her nemesis at the Open Meet was Britain's number one in the 10 year old girls for the 100m, 200, and 400m Individual Medleys (IM) and 400m free by the name of Rebecca Williams from the large visiting club of Middlesborough.  Over the two days Williams proved herself the faster swimmer although pbs eluded both to a degree.  Pugh did succeed to gain a 1st in the 200m back but then had to content herself with five 2nd places using the meet to swim some of her less favoured events following her success at the Midland District Championships.  With two 3rds a 4th and 5th place although with a new pb in the 50m breast 46.36 she was still pleased with her performances and posted 7th Top Girl (44pts) out of all the competing 180 girls aged 9 yrs and older.

Harry Sykes (12) set magnificent pbs in every event picking up a two 4th places in the 100m breast 1:29.59 and 200m breast 3:10.50, also a 5th place pennant in the 50m fly 37.87, plus a 6th in the 100m IM 1:14.84; and pbs in the 200m free 2:34.72; and 200m IM 2:52.23 the latter an improvement over his entry time of a massive 16% to match team mate Mcleans earlier.

Ten year old Joseph Doyle set a host of pb's and did not go home empty handed winning 5th place in the 200m back with a pb of 3:05.96.  Other pbs came in the 400m free 6:11.12; 200m free 2:54.30;  200m IM 3:19.52; and 100m IM 1:32.85.
