Pershore's Swimmers high in the league table

In the final leg of the Nuneaton & District Swimming League being the Premier Junior League in the Midland area Pershore Swimming Club's youngsters once again showed their desire to win this time at the Halesowen Leisure Centre's 33.3m pool.

Jasmine Taite was first in the water and gained 3rd place in the 10 yr 66.66m free followed by two 2nd places from Maisy Robertson and Simon Sweatman in their 33.3m breaststroke races. It wasn't long before Pershore's first win from the boys 11 & under (11/u) medley relay made up of Joseph Doyle, Tyler McLean, Drew Jones and Callum Sanderson.

Lizzie Vizard (12), Makenzie Christys (10), Drew Jones (11) all gained 3rd places just before McLean brought home another and this time expected victory and the maximum 6pts in the 10yr 2 lengths breast. This was quickly followed by another 1st place in the boys 9yr 4 x 1 length medley relay made up of Chris Vizard, Tom Bailey, Josh Sharratt and Sweatman. The winning quartet from the boys 11/u medley team repeated their supremacy in the 4 x 1 length freestyle, immediately followed by Tazmin Pugh's first of her three individual victories of the evening in the 12/u 2 lengths (66.66m) butterfly her others coming in the 11/u fly and 11/u backstroke over the same distance.

Not for the first time during the evening 9 year olds Sweatman and Sharratt swam up an age group in the 10/u 4 x 1 length medley relay when joined by Taylor and Mclean brought home maximum pts as they did when swimming in their own age group in the same medley event joined by Bailey and Vizard.

A win by Jones in the 11/u 2 lengths fly event placed the club only 6pts behind the leaders Hereford on 136pts at the half way stage, commenced a lean bout of fourteen events without a win together with a disqualification in the girls 8 x 1 length freestyle relay made up of two girls from each age group. This continued through to event 44 allowing the City club to pull away to an unassailable lead though the last nine events brought home two 1st and four 2nd placings. It was Mclean who stopped the rot in the 10yr 1 length fly, followed by a 2nd placings in the 9yr 1 length back from Daisy Tolley and Sharratt.

The club's final 1st place came from Ella Spencer, Lizzie Vizard, Tazmin Pugh and Tessa Carr in the 12/u 4 x 1 length Medley Relay. With the last two events bringing in 5pts each the club ended up with 216 in second place overall, with City of Hereford 249pts; Hinckley (Leics) in 3rd 185pts; Wellington (Shrops); 4th 149pts Orion (B'ham) 5th 134pts; and Oakengates (Shrops) 6th 116pts. This meant the club ended up with 14 league pts overall with two 2nd and one 3rd place from the three legs and so should be finishing in the top eight out of twenty four clubs in division two to which they were promoted to last year, and so once again surpassed all expectations at the start of this seasons matches.
