Pershore Pairing convincing in Victory.

Two of Pershore's swimming aces took to Coventry's Olympic pool for an early season taste of long course competition.  The format took the shape of the best eight swimmers totaled from points coming from 50m events of the four strokes of free, back, breast and fly going forward to the grand final in the 200m Individual Medley IM.

Nine Year old Tyler Mclean and ten year old Tazmin Pugh were the swimmers involved with Tyler having his first taste of long course competition. It didn't seem to faze him at all for in the first event the 50m breast he swam brilliantly into first place recording  45.22.  This time is two seconds quicker than any other nine year old in Great Britain in his end of year ranking.  Mclean then climbed to the top of the podium again even though tiring a little in the last 15metres in the 50m fly he was still comfortably ahead with 48.16.

The afternoon session found Mclean once again collecting the winner's trophies in the 50m free in 37.57 followed by 45.45 in the 50m back.  This witnessed Mclean in the most commanding display of swimming talent the competition has seen in recent years to take centre lane in the 200m IM final.

Meanwhile Tazmin Pugh would find it difficult to repeat her club mates success especially getting off to an indifferent start from her weakest breaststroke though still taking 3rd place with a new long course pb time of 48.73.   She got her head down however and went on to win the 50m fly in a superb 36.57 which is itself the 2nd fastest in the United Kingdom end of year rankings; the 50m free in 33.95 (7th in the UK) and 50m back in 39.28 (6th in the UK).

This also left Maclean and Pugh in the prime top swimmer middle lane placing for the grand 200m IM final.  First up came the nine year old boys with Mclean leading from the start in the first butterfly leg and followed by a stunning backstroke second leg he was stretching his lead only for his best stroke the breast to more than consolidate a spectacular 25metre winning margin over his nearest rival with a time to match of 3.16.52 becoming the 7th fastest in the UK rankings.

With ten year old Pugh's best stroke coming first with the fly in her race it was no surprise she started to repeat Mclean's display, next came the backstroke leg and her lead stretched out to 10metres hoping this would be large enough to sustain her lead in the breast stroke leg so as not to panic too much on the final 50metres of the freestyle leg.  It was with Pugh securing victory by over 12 seconds and a new long course 9 second pb of 2.57.99 being the 4th in the UK rankings.

It was a display unequalled all day even by some club's sporting numbers upwards of thirty swimmers leaving the Pershore pairing supreme in victory.
