Pershore swimmers once again deliver at Northgate Gala

Having competed in a conglomeration of galas in the last six weeks personal bests were in short supply for some of Pershore's swimmers at Northgate's (home of BBC's 'Unsung Hero' award Mrs 'Aunty' Jean Childs) aptly named 'PB Buster Open Meet'.

Competing in an gruelling ten events over the two days of competition ten year old Izzy Cumming from St Barnabas C of E school at Drakes Broughton who have regularly supplied talented swimmers to the Pershore club deserved to have the title of 'iron women' of the meet. Izzy won bronze medals together with new pb's in the 100m fly (1:51.82) and 50m fly (46.06) events, only narrowly missing on another when coming 4th in the 200m free finishing in 3:03.19. Izzy came 9th in the top girl competition for 10 year olds.

The second of the St Barnabas pupils, 9yr old Charlotte Downey, celebrated another good meet with improving on her pb's set only a week before in the 50m back (46.25) also winning bronze and the 200m breast stroke (4:04.32) narrowly coming 4th. Charlotte went one better winning silver in the 50m breast stroke (53.61) whilst finishing 7th in the nine year old top girl competition.

Finishing 5th top girl in the ten year old girls was Naomi Marsden bringing yet more distinction to her school Kings Hawford in Worcester. Her only pb came in the 50m breast stroke (50.89) but in taking two gold, two silver and a bronze this was not the first time she took home the biggest medal haul. Her two golds came in the 50m backstroke (40.06) and the 100m backstroke (1:25.84), with silver coming in the 200m back 3:05.91) taking bronze in the 50m freestyle (35.44).

Pentathlon GB training squad member took the opportunity to hone one of the five events with his swimming skills taking gold in the 100m breast stroke in a great new pb time of 1:26.80, with a 2nd place and another pb coming in the 200m free of 2:17.61. His third medal, a silver, came in the 50m free in 28.25.

Brother and sister Christopher (10) and Elizabeth Vizard (14) took home Pershore's remaining medals. Chris also attending St Barnabas Drakes Broughton school took 2nd in the 200m free in a new pb with 2:51.06, with other pbs in the 200m Individual Medley (IM) 3:16.22' 50m free 35.53; 50m fly 44.47; 100m breast stroke 1:52.03 finfishing in 5thtop ten year old boy spot.

Meanwhile his elder sister Lizzie Vizard (Pershore High School) took Gold in the 200m breast stroke in 3:07.69 with a pb coming in the 200m back in 2:48.93.

Another Pershore High school pupil, Louise Hird (yr 8), set a pb in her one event with 47.51, with St Mary's Worcester pupil, Emily Burton setting a great new pb of 3:04.16 and 5th place the best of her four swims. Taking 4th place in the 13yr boys competition in the 200m back stroke was Joseph Doyle with a 7thplace coming in the hard fought 400m (16 lengths) freestyle event in 5:26.08.
