Records topple at Prestigious Gala

Tazmin Pugh representing Pershore Swimming Club competed recently at the Prestigious City of Birmingham four day gala amongst a wealth of British talent on show. Sixty one clubs competed with over 2,500 swims from nearly 500 competitors.

Tazmin started the gruelling four day schedule with the 400 Individual Medley (IM) and even though swimming this event for the first time in competition came away with the best time ever from a nine year Worcestershire swimmer with 6.46.71 beating the previous record from several years ago of 8.35.34 by nearly two minutes. Tazmin's time now ranks her as No 1 in the UK her nearest rival being nearly four minutes slower at 10.26.50.

The following day saw Tazmin swim the 200m freestyle coming 2nd in her age group with 2.58.54 just below her pb. The 200m Butterfly was also the first time in competition and a superb time of 3.34.51 saw her secure the second of her five pb's of the meet and a first in the age group. This was followed in the afternoon with a 50m fly taking 3rd place with 43.15.

Sunday found Tazmin in the pool again setting yet another pb in the 200m breast stroke with 3.38.57 and once again taking 2nd place. This was followed by the 50m breast stroke sprint Tazmin 0.3secs outside a pb recording 48.99.

On the final day of competition Tazmin swam the 200 IM recording 3.12.53 taking 1st place for nine year olds. In the afternoon Tazmin was joined by club mate Alison Seward (9) from Worcester. Alison was in superb form and lowered her 200m back stroke time another 3 seconds to 3.15.30 having already seen it come down by over 27 seconds at the county champs a few weeks ago. In a different heat Tazmin recorded 3.09.09 to take 2nd place overall for her age.

In the last two events of the meet Tazmin swam two more pb's with a 36.71 in the 50m free and 41.01in the 50m backstroke whilst Alison swam to form with 41.47 for the free and 44.60 in her least favoured 50m breast event.

It was baptism of fire with all the talent on show with GB and Scottish Records falling and many National Youth and Age Group and scores of Midlands District Qualifying Times recorded. One more tremendous accolade fell upon the two girls from the Pershore Club being listed 7th in the list of most improved clubs over entry times from the 61 clubs taking part.    PHOTO
