Pershore Swimming Club came away with a huge haul of medals at the Worcester County Development Open Meet held at Wolverhampton, with several youngsters winning multiple medals.

Hamish Cross (12) was in superb form, winning four golds and one silver medal.  Cross claimed victory in the 100m IM in 1.19.91, 100m backstroke in 1.22.84, 100m breaststroke in 1.36.68, and 100m fly 1.23.28 as well as taking silver in the 100m freestyle in 1.14.00. He also made the Skins Final, producing a series of great swims to finish a close second.

David Annis (9) was another swimmer in fantastic form, winning an incredible seven gold medals from seven events and producing a string of personal bests.  Annis won gold in 100m IM (1.29.41), 100m fly (1.32.85), 100m breastroke (1.49.29), 100m backstroke (1.30.35), 50m breaststroke (49.93), 50m fly (40.49) and 50m backstroke (41.17).

William Clarke (13) showed great form and determination throughout the Open Meet, winning three gold and four silver medals.  Victories for Clarke came in the 50m backstroke (36.81), 50m fly (36.04) and 100m backstroke (1.18.29).  Clarke also snatched silver medals in the 50m breastroke (43.37), 100m freestyle (1.12.09), 100m fly (1.22.96) and 100m breastroke (1.36.99).

There were more podium finishes for Pershore boys, with Ronan Williams (12) producing some strong performances to win gold in the 50m fly (38.98) and silver medals in the 50m freestyle (34.54), 50m breaststroke (47.58) and 100m IM in 1.23.99.  Williams also made the Skins Final alongside Cross and worked hard to claim fourth place. Other boys getting amongst the medals included Jamie Saunders (12) who  gold in the 50m backstroke (41.12); James Heeks (10) won silver medals in 100m freestyle (1.27.17) and 100m backstroke (1.40.76) and also bronze in 50m backstroke (45.85); Cameron Leach (11) grabbed silver in the 50m breastroke (46.98) and Oliver Smith (11) claimed a well-earned bronze in 100m backstroke (1.45.35).

For Pershore’s girls, Helena Leach (13) claimed gold in the girls 100m freestyle (1.14.00) and silver medals in 100m IM (1.27.12), 50m fly (38.76) and 50m backstroke (39.98).  Leach also made her first ever Skins Final which was an incredible achievement.  Gabriella Barry (10) notched up a win in the 100m fly (1.37.66) and silver in the 50m fly (41.81).

There were also good performances from several other young swimmers, many competing in an Open Meet for the first time, including Lewis Cribbin (10), Max Murray (10), Martha Cross (9), Leah Saunders (9), Jessica English (9), Tamara Marsden (10), Tara Smith (11) and Hazel Clay (12).
